Overview:
The YAMAHA Saluto is a brand new 125 CC premium commuter from YAMAHA Motors India LTD. This bike is made to take on the 125 cc commuter market in the Indian subcontinent.
The most noticeable thing about the Saluto is Yamaha’s advertisement for fuel-efficiency. Yamaha claims that the bike is based on the concept of “Economical & Practical Family Motorcycle”. The bike looks very stylish and very sporty as well. Let’s see what else the bike has to offer.
Design:
The YAMAHA Saluto as a 125cc premium commuter motorcycle the design of the bike has played the part as it should. Saluto 125 is a very catchy bike for any generation. The Saluto is elegant in style.
It is a bit difficult to guess that this bike is for the economy segment because of its muscular edges all over the bike. The front headlamp cowl of the YAMAHA Saluto looks inspiring along with the CB Unicorn style pilot lamp just on top of the FZ series inspired headlamp.

The front mudguard looks sporty, the fuel tank is well sculpted and looks attractive kind of similar to the one we saw in the TVS Metro plus. The fuel tank gets a plastic black colored GT style guard that gives the bike a very attractive look as well as gives a sporty feel to it. The graphics are new and give the bike a dual-tone feel.
The side panels are body graphic’s colored. The rear grab rail has an arrow finished with sharp edges to it. Under the body of the bike follows the same all-black trend which most of the bike manufacturers are following nowadays.
It looks fantastic with the bike. The Saluto is available in 4 color choices that is Sparky Cyan, Smokey Black, Glory Green and special edition Matte Green.
Instrument Console:
The instrument console of the Saluto 125 is an all-analog unit. The console is equipped with a speedometer, an odometer, fuel gauge indicator; no low battery indicator, service indicator what so ever.
The turn signal indicator, headlight indicator, and neutral indicator are placed in the top of the console. I would say that the decision of using this instrument console was not a smart one as the competition is tough now.
Switch gears:
The switch gears of the Saluto are standard and of premium quality. Other switch gears include pass lights, headlight switch and other common switches included push-button start but no Engine kill switch.
Engine:
The Saluto is powered by an all-new 125cc engine which is a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC, Blue core engine. This engine uses the same technology as the FZS v2 or Fazer v2 which results in more efficient combustion hence efficiency in mileage. The engine has 52.4 mm bore and 57.9 mm stroke means more torque in low rev-range.

The compression ratio is 10:1 which is impressive. This engine can produce 8.3 PS of peak power at 7000 RPM and 10.1NM of torque at 4500 RPM which is low considering some of its rivals but the power is more accessible.
The engine uses the wet-sump lubrication like most bikes. This bike comes with bellow average 7.5 Liter fuel tank and feeds through a carburetor. The Wet weight is 112 Kg hence the bike has a power to weight ratio of 3.4 HP for per 100 KG. It has both Electric and kicks starter.
Transmission, Clutch, and Final drive train:
The YAMAHA Saluto is mated with a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox. This transmission uses a wet multi-plate type clutch. The gear shifts are the all-up pattern. The bike is equipped with a heel and toe shifter so you don’t have to worry about your shoe’s. The final drive is chain and sprockets.
Electricals:
The YAMAHA Saluto uses a 12 V-5 Ah Lead Acid battery. The bike has a 12 V, 110 W flywheel magneto. The bike uses a CDI or Capacitor Discharge Ignition System. The Bike has bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC head lamp, 5/21 W tail/ Brake light, and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.
Wheels and Tires:
The Saluto 125 is equipped with 18 inches six-spoke matte Black finished rims. The rims are fitted with 80/100-18” 47P tubeless tire at the front and 80/100-18” 54P tubeless tire at the rear. Which is decent in this segment but some of its rivals have wider tire at the rear.
Brakes:
The Saluto 125 comes with a 130 mm Drum brake as standard but a 240mm disk brake with a single-piston caliper is available as an option in the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. The disk brake setup should deliver superior braking performance through faster heat dissipation.
Suspension:
The Saluto is equipped with Hydraulic Telescopic forks at the front and spring-loaded hydraulic shocks at the rear which are attached with rectangular swing arm. This suspension is decent in this segment for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back and offering great comfort at the same time.
Chassis & Dimensions:
YAMAHA used a Diamond type frame for the foundation of the Saluto, which is very impressive for a 125 CC economy bike. The YAMAHA Saluto has an overall length of 2035 mm, the width of 700 mm, the height of 1080 mm and ground clearance of 180 mm, wheelbase of 1265 mm.
The wet weight (with tool kit & 90% of fuel) of the bike is 112 kg. These mean that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions while the lightest in the class.
Comfort and handling:
The Saluto is a very comfortable bike to ride, thanks to its well-cushioned seat and well-engineered shocks. The handling of this bike is very easy thanks to its 112KG wet weight and 1265 mm wheelbase.

The caster angle is 26 degrees makes sure that all kind of rider can ride this bike very easily. The bike has 180 mm ground clearance which is more than enough for any road condition on Bangladesh.
Performance:
Talking about the performance of the Saluto is talking about the mileage performance of it. The official maximum mileage claim is 78 KmpL which will not be true for everyday city commuting. The Saluto can give mileage about 70-75 KmpL in the city, 50-55 in the Hill tracks and 70-76 in the highway.
Moreover, this bike has a top speed of about 105 km. Also, the Saluto has the maximum torque at the 4500 RPM, so the maximum thrust will be available much quicker than also helps to minimize the fuel consumption of the bike.
Conclusion:
The Yamaha Saluto 125 is a perfect blend of price, performance, and comfort for an entry-level commuter with touches of elegance and style. It is highly recommended for any rider who wants to ride in style but don’t want to burn holes in the pocket.
