PROS
CONS
VERDICT
The FZS v2 is one of the most successful bikes in Bangladesh. In 2017 due to new traffic regulation in India Yamaha has to make their bike AHO (Always Headlamp On) enabled. So, in 2017 the Yamaha launched the model of the Yamaha FZS v2 with the AHO.
The bike is all together the same as before in terms of design and engine except for some minor changes to make the bike more comfortable and user friendly. And as per BS4 regulation, the FZS v2 was already BS4 when it was first launched because of the fuel injection. So, without further ado, lets jump to the main review.
Design: In terms of design YAMAHA did not make any major changes to the bike (Source). New paint scheme, new decals, new textured seat and the most noticeable, the massive rear tire hugger is been replaced with a huge rear mudguard just like we saw in the version 1.
It has the same big muscular, contoured, forward leaned, edgy and sharper fuel tank. The outer parts are made of plastic but the fit and finish is good as before. The headlight is same as before.
The under tank cowls have the same design for better air flow through the engine which results better heat dissipation. The 140mm section rear tire with more curve to, the 41mm front shocks remains.
Actually the consumers of the 150cc street bikes want these two things which all of a sudden can change the look of the bike not to mention the handling performance.
The seat is split sit setup, side panels are all blacked out which gives more attractiveness to the bike and rear cowls have sharper and slicker look as before, tail lamp is the same, the exhaust design has remain same. Overall the bike is basically remained same with some minor changes.
It looks absolutely gorgeous as before. The bike has 4 new paint schemes and they are Darknight or matte Black, Knight Red, Hurricane Gray, Lightning Cyne, Opal White and the Spacial edition Matte Green.
Instrument Console: The instrument console of the 2017 FZS v2 is the same all Digital unit. The rectangular shaped LED panel has orange back-lights but it is very readable. The console is equipped with a tachometer, a speedometer, an odometer, trip meter and a fuel gauge.
The turn signal indicator, headlight indicator and service indicator are placed in the sides of the console. A new eco-mode indicator has been added to let the rider extract the best mileage from the bike.
Switch gears: The switch gears of the 2017 FZS v2 are standard except for no headlamp on-off switch as it is AHO enabled and of premium quality as every Yamaha bikes. Other switch gears include pass lights, headlight switch and other common switches included push button start and Engine kill switch.
Engine: The 2017 FZS v2 is powered by the same 150 cc engine as before. Yamaha need not to change any thing on the engine as it was BS4 complaint from the beginning. The engine is a 149 cc single cylinder, air cooled, 2-valve, SOHC, Blue-core engine. The Blue-core is a marketing term for Yamaha’s new and more efficient engines.
The engine has 57.3 mm bore and 57.9 mm stroke means it is a square shaped cylinder. The compression ratio is 9.5:1 which ensure the longevity of the engine. This engine can produce 13 PS of peak power at 7500 RPM and 12.8 NM of torque at 6000 RPM which is enough.
The engine uses both force feed lubrication system and wet sump lubrication like most bikes. This bike comes with 12 Liter fuel tank and feed through a electric fuel injection system. Now the fuel injection is a automatic fuel supply system controlled by a computer in the bike. The computer automatically increase or decreases the amount of fuel need according to the throttle position.
The Wet weight is 132 Kg (with full fuel and oil) hence the bike has a power to weight ratio of 4.4 HP per 100 KG, same as before. It has an Electric starter but no kick starter.
Transmission, Clutch and Final drive train: The 2017 YAMAHA FZS v2 is mated with a 5-speed constant mesh gear box. This transmission uses a wet multi plate type clutch. The gear shifts are international pattern that means 1 down and 4 up. The bike is equipped with a toe shifter so you have to worry about you shoe’s. The final drive is chain and sprockets.
Electricals: The 2017 YAMAHA FZS v2 uses a 12V - 4.0Ah Maintenance Free battery. The bike uses a computer programmed Ignition System due to the inclusion of fuel injection. The Bike has bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens Halogen AC head lamp, 5/21 W tail/ Brake light, each 10 W clear lens turn signal light and all other lights are 1 W each.
Wheels and Tires: The 2017 FZS v2 is equipped with 17 inch five spoke Black finished Alloy rims. The rims are fitted with 100/80-17 tubeless tire at the front and 140/60-17 tubeless tire at the rear. With the 2017 models the tires are more round than before which should offer more agility and more bank angle with better grip.
Breaks: The 2017 FZS v2 comes with a 267 mm disk brake with dual piston caliper in the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. The disk brake setup should deliver just enough and linear braking performance.
Suspension: The 2017 FZS v2 is equipped with a beefy 41mm Telescopic coil spring; oil damped forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear which are attached with rectangular swing arm. This suspension is superb in this segment for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back and offering great comfort at the same time.
Chassis & Dimensions: YAMAHA used a Diamond type frame for the foundation of the 2017 FZS v2 which should give better stability on any time. The 2017 YAMAHA FZS v2 has overall length of 2073 mm, width of 770 mm, height of 1050 mm and ground clearance of 160 mm, wheel base of 1330 mm.
The wet weight (with tool kit, oil & 100% of fuel) of the bike is 132 kg. These mean that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions. The length and the wheelbase remained same.
Comfort and handling: The 2017 FZS v2 is a very comfortable bike to ride, thanks to its well cushioned seat and well engineered shocks. The new model has textured seat that should resolve the sliding issue in the previous model.
The handling of this bike is very easy thanks to its 790mm seat height and 1330 mm wheel base. The bike has 160 mm ground clearance which is enough for any road condition on Bangladesh.
Performance: As the bike is basically same as the previous model so in terms of performance there is no change either. The bike gives the same 40-45 KmpL as before and offers lots of grip and stability in everywhere.
Conclusion: The 2017 Yamaha FZS v2 has remained the same perfect Street naked in the 150 cc segment with performance, elegance and style just like its predecessor. The bike is actually a lord of the street as it is advertised. It is highly recommended for any rider who wants to ride with passion.
