VERDICT
Taro GP 2 is a sportbike. In a country where people have to sell kidneys to buy sportbikes, a company brought a sportbike for under 3 lacs. The sportbike culture in Bangladesh is huge. When Japanese companies are bringing motorcycles at extreme prices, Chinese companies came to save the day. Companies such as Lifan and Taro have brought premium motorcycles at reasonable prices. Taro has brought full-fledged sportbikes in the Taro GP series, which has blown everyone’s minds away.
Taro is a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer. Taro is operating in Bangladesh through the means of Taro Bangla. Taro has been operating in Bangladesh since 2018, and over the years they have gathered a good number of customers. This has been possible because bikes from the Taro GP series are full-fledged sportbikes that are designed to look like MotoGP bikes. Due to cubic capacity limitations, only bikes under 165cc are brought to Bangladesh. Taro GP 2 is also a bike of the Taro GP series.
Key Features:
The Taro GP 2 is a sportbike with full fairing and clip-ons and all the shenanigans needed for a sportbike. The bike is made with clip-ons and a split seat. The front of the bike gets an extended windscreen which allows wind to be diverted above the bike. The Taro GP 2, just like its predecessors, also has a loud exhaust sound. However, unlike the previous version, the Taro GP 2 comes with an under-seat exhaust system.
The Taro GP 2 comes in two colors. The colors are:
- Orange.
- Green.
Both variants of the bike come with little to no decals.
The Taro GP 2 has a full LED headlight setup. The LED headlights allow the rider to have a good view of the highway at night. The with LED headlights, the bike also has LED taillights, which are situated on the borders of the exhaust at the back. The indicators of the bike are also LED, which gives this bike a very minimalistic look.
The Taro GP 2 has a very informative instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is fully digital. The instrument cluster shows speed, odo, trip, RPM count, time, fuel amount, and other necessary indicators. The instrument cluster is everything a rider needs and more.
Physical Attributes:
The Taro GP 2 comes with a very big physical appearance just like its predecessor. The clip-ons of the bike are slightly raised, which allows the rider to comfortably ride the bike for long periods without getting tired or back-pain. The bike has a saddle height of 785mm, which will suitable for riders above the height of 5’3”. It also means that the ones who had difficulty riding the Taro GP 1 will not have the same difficulty riding this bike. The ground clearance of the bike is around 180mm, which allows the rider to conquer most of the speedbumps of Bangladesh. The bike also has a fuel capacity of 11.5liters, which is less than the big brother, but still great for going on long tours.
The length, width, height, and weight of the Taro GP 2 are 1930mm, 730mm, 1080mm, and 140kg respectively. The bike may look similar to the Taro GP 1, but it is smaller and nimbler. The bike also has a very long wheelbase of 1313mm. The wheelbase is also shorter, which further makes it nimbler, but takes away some of the stability during cornering.
Engine and Transmission:
The Taro GP 2 comes with a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, and 149.8cc engine. The engine is liquid-cooled and is fitted with a carburetor. The engine pumps out a staggering 16BHP of power at 8500rpm and 14.5Nm torque at 8000rpm. While the power is extremely high, the torque figure is quite average and also kicks in quite late. The bike is expected to have a mileage of around 38kmpl on average.
The Taro GP 2 has a basic wet multi-plate clutch system. The Taro GP 2 has a 6-speed gearbox, and the bike has an approximate top speed of about 130kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
Taro GP 2 has a very average braking system, considering the price. The front brake of the bike is quite interesting though. The front brake is a dual-disc setup, of which both the discs are 300mm. The rear brake is also above most brake plates, as it is a 240mm disc. Now, the question is why the brakes are average for its price because at this price an ABS or CBS would have done wonders to the bike.
The Taro GP 2 comes with telescopic forks at the front and a gas-charged mono-shock at the rear. The front has telescopic forks that are not upside-down forks and does not come with adjustability settings either. The rear gas-charged mono-shock won’t be very comfortable for a pillion, but for the rider at corners, it will be highly useful.
The Taro GP 2 has alloy wheels. The front and the rear have a combination of 110/70 and 140/70 tires respectively. The tire combination is quite good compared to other motorcycles of this range. It also is quite suitable for leaning at the corners and for good braking.
Target Audience:
The Taro GP 2 is for the people who are learning their ropes in the sportbikes segment. This bike is for beginner sportbike riders, not beginner bikers. For beginners, this bike will be a bit overwhelming as it is powerful and big. This bike is for the occasional tourers and people who like to ride on the highway for fun.
Competitors:
Taro GP 2 has very few competitors in its segment.
- Lifan KPR 150.
- Aprilia GPR 150.
- Taro GP 1.
Taro GP 2 is a good-looking motorcycle with good specifications and features. This bike is a great bike for the street Rossis and the speed lovers. The Taro GP 2 is expected to have a similar response to the Taro GP 1.
