About KTM
KTM Brand History
KTM history starts a very long time ago, even before the big racing Motorcycle. The company was founded in 1934 by an Austrian engineer named Hans Trunkenpolz in a town called Mattighofen, Austria.
First, it was only a small repair shop for cars and motorcycle. The first name was a very long German name, but the letter K.T.M. are what we remember. It stand for Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen (after a business partner, Ernst Kronreif, joined in 1953).
In the beginning, they made things like moped and scooters, but they soon focused more on off road racing bikes. They started winning many championships, and that is what make they famous.
In the early 90s, the company was in big trouble financially, so it split into four different company. The motorcycle part got a new owner and became KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH. This new team was very focus on making the bikes the best and fastest.brought out the Duke series in 1994, which was their first modern street bike. They also started painting their bikes that famous orange color you see today in 1996. This new team dedication to racing and performance is why KTM is now one of the bigg motorbike makers in Europe. They are doing very good now.
