The Yamaha R15 V3 was one of the most advanced bikes in its segment when it came out. People went crazy for the bike. When the Yamaha R15 V3 came out, it instantly took the throne as one of the most fan favorite bikes of the segment. A lot of other bikes came out after the Yamaha R15 V3 came out, but the R15 V3 still held its reign with pride. It was the perfect predecessor of any bike. It also came with a lot of fantastic features, such as ABS and Slipper clutch. 

Can we install a Yamaha R15 V3 ABS on a Yamaha R15 V2? 

Anit-lock Braking System (ABS) is one of the most advanced braking systems in the world. There are multiple companies in the world who make ABS. Some of the most popular ABS systems in the motorcycle world are Bosch ABS, Yamaha ABS, BWI ABS, Continental ABS, and Honda ABS. When installing ABS in a motorcycle, a company goes through a lot of Research and Development in order to make the ABS and the bike right for each other. When installing aftermarket ABS or ABS of another bike in a motorcycle, there are quite a few risks that a rider or the owner should consider. 

Why shouldn't you go for an aftermarket ABS?

Expensive: These systems are made by both popular and small companies. Popular companies have very high quality ABS systems. These systems may as well cost you half the price of your motorcycle. The price to performance ratio will not be suitable. For small companies, the ABS sets produced don’t have very good performance. In the case of Bangladesh and India, aftermarket ABS systems of small companies are also very expensive. 

Availability: Aftermarket ABS sets are not readily available in Bangladesh. Regardless of expensive or cheap sets, aftermarket ABS sets are not available anyway in Bangladesh. In most cases, you might have to import the whole set from overseas. 

After Sales service: ABS sets are complicated anyway. If the set is not compatible with your bike, in that case, you will not get any form of after sales service. In case of any harm to the bike, you might not get any form of service from your motorcycle provider as it might void your warranty. 

Performance: Assuming you have already installed the ABS set, you won’t get the same performance as the stock ABS sets. This is because stock sets have been integrated with the ECU of the bike, but for these systems, they will have to be hard wired to the ECU or have a separate ECU, which might not be very good for the bike. 

Similar conditions apply when you are thinking of installing the ABS of the Yamaha R15 V3 to the older Yamaha R15 V2. The ECU of the Yamaha R15 V2 is also older, which might not take the alien ABS of the Yamaha R15 V3. Another big reason is that the front brake diameter of the Yamaha R15 V3 and the Yamaha R15 V2 are quite different. 

Hence, even if it is possible to install the Yamaha R15 V3 ABS on the Yamaha R15 V2 (which we cannot be sure), it would not be the best idea to do so, as it might risk the bike. Components such as ABS are electronics that are dependent on the internal computer, the Electrical Control Unit (ECU), of a bike. The ECU of a bike is very sensitive and should not be messed with very frequently.
