VERDICT
Motorcycles were made to be able to squeeze through traffic and to be better than cars. But about fifty years into the invention of motorcycles, people needed smaller bikes. A motorcycle can squeeze through places which even a motorcycle can’t get through. Thus, came the minibikes. In the 21st century, the Honda Grom became the most famous minibike. That was the case until Kawasaki had to put its nose into the segment and bring out the one-step better Kawasaki Z125 PRO.
Kawasaki is a Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, which is considered one of the best motorcycle companies in the world. Kawasaki is also considered as a Japanese Giant when it comes to motorcycle production. The name Kawasaki Z125 PRO can be a bit misleading. Considering the Z125 PRO is a naked bike with power figures a little south of 150cc motorcycles, the Z125 PRO can be expected to be better. However, the Kawasaki Z125 PRO is a minibike.
Key Features:
As previously mentioned, the Kawasaki Z125 PRO is a minibike. It has a small frame with small everything. However, the styling of the bike was taken from the Kawasaki Z series, which makes it look quite aggressive. The bike has a small head but a large headlight. The bike is also quite rounded, unlike the Honda Grom. The bike comes in two different colors in Bangladesh. They are
- Green.
- Silver.
Both the bikes have similar color contrast. The bikes have little to no decals, except for some brandings.
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO comes with very basic lights. The headlight and the taillight are both halogen lights, while the indicators are LED. The halogen lights are not much of a turn off because Kawasaki claims that the bike is made to “Conquer the City”. So, the halogen lights will be enough for the city commute. The taillight and the LED designs are both very similar to the bigger Kawasaki Z series bikes.
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has a speedometer, an odometer, a trip meter, an RPM counter, and other necessary indicators. The instrument cluster also has a clock and a gear position indicator. The instrument cluster may not have a lot of instruments, but it is enough for the city commute.
Physical Attributes:
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO is a minibike, with a seat height of 780mm. The bike is mostly suited for riders under 5’5”. Any height above that and the handlebars will start hitting the knees. As Kawasaki is calling this bike the “Grom killer”, it gave this bike a tank bigger than the Grom. The tank can hold up to 7.4 liters of fuel.
The length, width, height, and weight of the Kawasaki Z125 PRO are 1699mm, 749.3mm, 1005mm, and 102kg respectively. The bike is lighter than the Grom. It also has a shorter wheelbase than the Grom. The wheelbase of the bike is 1176mm, which makes it very nimble and fun in the corners. The bike also has a ground clearance of 155mm, which may make this vulnerable to most of the speedbumps in Bangladesh.
Engine and Transmission:
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO comes with a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, and 125cc engine with DOHC. The engine is liquid-cooled and directly fuel-injected, which are huge plus points for the bike. The engine pumps out 9.5BHP of power at 8000rpm and 9.5Nm torque at 6000rpm. The power and torque figure are not very high, which means that the bike will struggle to go uphill for a longer period, and will also struggle on the highway. The bike is expected to have a mileage of around 40-45kmpl on average.
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO has a basic wet multi-plate clutch system. The Kawasaki Z125 PRO has a -speed gearbox and the bike has an approximate top speed of about 100kmph. The 4-speed gearbox will make it easy to take turns without shifting. The free-play region of the clutch is also non-existent.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheel:
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO does not have any ABS. The front and the rear wheel both get disc brakes. The front is a 200mm disc, whereas the rear is a 184mm disc. The bike gets better brakes than most standard 125cc bikes.\
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO has 30mm upside-down telescopic forks as the front suspension with 100mm travel. The rear has a mono shock-absorbing suspension. This means that the bike will be highly stable during rides and also during cornering. Although the rear seat is nearly nonexistent, the rear suspension can cover up for a small seat.
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO gets alloy wheels. The front and rear wheels have 100/90 and 120/70 tires respectively. The rear tire is also better than the Grom, which makes it more stable at the corners. The nimbleness of the bike is supported by the tires.
Target Audience:
The Kawasaki Z125 PRO was made for youngsters just learning to ride. This bike induces confidence in new riders who are still learning the ropes. This bike has good power and torque figures, yet is not as overwhelming when riding, due to its smooth riding. The Kawasaki Z125 PRO is also for the people who want to buy a premium commuting bike which can squeeze through almost anything.
Competitors:
Weirdly, the Kawasaki Z125 PRO has 2 competitors, but the competitors are strong enough to question the buyer’s decisions.
- GPX Demon 125
- Motrac 125
