We all know that in Bangladesh to legally ride a motorcycle it is mandatory to obtain registration and a tax token certificate. In this case the registration number is valid for lifetime but for motorcycles the tax token from BRTA is applicable for a maximum period of 10 years.

Many of us have a question about what to do after the 10 year validity ends or whether it is possible to ride using the old tax token after the 10 year period has passed. Today we will know the answers to these questions.

What to Do When the Motorcycle Tax Token Validity Exceeds 10 Years?

The 10 year tax token of a motorcycle can be paid at once or in installments every 2 years by paying 2300 taka. Although motorcycle registration fee varies by cc the tax token fee is the same for all types of motorcycles. If the 10 year tax token has expired and the full amount has been paid then you only need to deposit 23 taka at any branch of the bank that handles BRTA fees with the original copy of the previous tax token and a photocopy.

After depositing this 23 taka the bank officer will provide a bank slip and the original copy. According to the next step you have to present this bank slip and original copy to the Assistant Director of the respective BRTA where the motorcycle was registered and collect the new tax free token. With this tax token you can legally ride the motorcycle on the road and after 5 years you will have to update or renew this tax free token again by paying 23 taka using the same process.

Those riders who have not previously paid the onetime 1150 taka of the Financial Assistance Fund must pay a total of 1183 taka including this amount and collect the tax free token following the same rules. If the Financial Assistance Fund fee has been paid then only 23 taka has to be paid and the rules need to be followed.

Many riders think that after the 10 year validity ends there may not be any further action needed or that it is possible to ride with the old tax token. But this is not legally valid and to avoid legal complications on the road it is necessary for us to be aware of collecting and updating the tax free token in due time.
