Yamaha FZ-X 150 Test Ride Review Details:
In the context of Bangladesh, Yamaha is known for sports and naked sports segment motorcycles. Specifically for Yamaha R15 V3, Yamaha FZS Fi V2, and Yamaha FZS Fi V3 motorcycles. Each model is very popular in their category.
However, Yamaha also has some models that are out of the conventional designs and models. These models are the Yamaha XSR 155 and Yamaha FZ-X 150. This Yamaha model is made with two retro designs and looks.
The Yamaha FZ-X 150 model is not only retro-designed but also has modern technology added to it. This puts the bike ahead of other models in this segment.
Style, Looks, Design, and Graphics
In the case of bikers, looks, design, and style are very important. But there is a demand for motorcycles with classic looks beyond conventional designs. Cafe racer motorcycles are popular in Bangladesh. Its classic looks and design attract bikers.
In this case of Yamaha FZ-X bike will be ahead. This bike combines classic looks and design with modern style. Any biker will love the bike at first sight.
Because the looks of the bike from the front to the rear are all kept like the classic cafe racer. On the other hand, modern stylish like head lights, handlebars have added modern design and style graphics to everything.
Besides, the bike has been presented beautifully without adding too many graphics. It can be said that Yamaha has made the bike stylish to the younger generation of bikers. This gives it a cafe racer as well as a modern stylish feel.
Engine and power
The main driving force of a bike is its engine and power. Yamaha has always given utmost importance to their motorcycle engines. Yamaha does research and development of their engines.
This bike is powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve, fuel injection (FI) engine. This engine churns out a maximum of 12.20 bhp @ 7500 rpm and 13.30 Nm of torque @ 5500 rpm.
The bike is quite a powerful motorcycle in this segment. In terms of engine power, the bike will be quite ahead in this category. A 5-speed gear box is mated to the engine for this power transmission.
Wheels, Brakes and Suspension
Yamaha has always focused on their wheels, brakes, and suspension. Especially speaking of brakes, Yamaha brakes are one of the best brakes in the motorcycle segment Because Yamaha emphasizes brakes to make their motorcycle and rider's control more smooth.
In this bike, Yamaha has used Bybri's brake system and added ABS to it. Due to the addition of ABS, the safety of the rider has increased many times. A 282mm front disc brake is provided at the front and a 220mm disc brake is provided at the rear.
A Telescopic fork is provided at the front of the bike. This telescopic fork is a fork boot with 41mm diameter inner tube. On the other hand, 7-step adjustable monoshock suspension has been provided at the rear.
Again, in the case of wheels, alloy rims have been given. 100/80-17 section tires at the front and 140/60-17 rear tires. Both tires are tubeless tires.
Features and Technology
The classic cafe racer motorcycle has undergone many changes to keep pace with the modern age. The Yamaha FZ-X 150 bike is also equipped with modern technology. If this category does not look like a motorcycle with modern technology. But this FZ-X bike is enriched with more technology.
First of all, a single ABS has been added to the braking of this bike. Which makes the braking of this bike richer. However, the ABS braking system is currently seen in this category of motorcycles.
A Traction Control System (TCS) is provided along with this braking system. This will greatly reduce the chances of the rider's bike skidding or slipping on the road. Especially on gravel, gravel, sand will increase riding confidence.
Along with this, the overall length of the bike is 220mm, its width is 785mm and its height is 1115mm. The ground clearance of the bike is 165mm. The carb weight of this bike is 139 kg. Its fuel tank capacity is 10 liters.
On the other hand, many features have been added including pipe handlebar, charging port, Y-connect, and negative LCD display. A side stand start off indicator is provided. So that if your bike is on the side stand the bike will not start.
In particular, its LCD display or full digital meter is given. In it you can see everything including ABS, traction control, clock, rpm, speed, fuel gauge. But it has no gear indicator.
The bike has bi-functional LED projection headlights as headlights. Everything, including the bike's tail lights and indicators, is LED.
Riding experience
There are many things to keep in mind while taking a motorcycle test ride. Important among these is its performance or how the bike performs during riding. There is a big difference between performing on the road and performing during production. Because the performance of the bike is really understood when the bike is regularly ridden on the road.
When we started with the Yamaha FZ-X bike, one of the things we thought was that the bike would perform well in the classic cafe racer genre. But we were surprised by the performance of the bike.
At the very beginning, this design looks and style. The bike combines classic cafe racer style with modern styling. This gives the bike a classic vibe with a modern look. Cafe racer lovers will love the looks of the bike.
The bike is a bit bulky. From the front to the rear, the bike looks pretty good. Especially on the front, its retro design headlights with LED DRLs give a modern look to the classic cafe racer. Besides, the bike has been given a light cruiser vibe.
On the other hand, if we look at the engine, we have to wonder. Because Yamaha has added a powerful engine of 150cc to the bike. The engine is capable of producing 12.20 bhp and 13.30 Nm of peak torque. From this, it can be understood that the bike is quite a powerful motorcycle.
You can easily ride the bike on hills or high places if you want. Besides, you will get good confidence while riding or overtaking on the highway. But the speed of the bike can be picked up to 80/90 km very well. Then gradually speed up.
We found the top speed of the bike to be 115 kmp/h. As a cafe racer bike, this speed seems pretty good to me.
Both the braking and balance of the bike are very well matched with the speed. Yamaha is famous for general braking and balance. It can be said that the bike has given good feedback in terms of braking and balance. Even if you are speeding, the bike will remain under your control.
Braking has also been added with single-channel ABS and Traction Control System (TCS). TCS technology in this type of motorcycle is the first in Bangladesh. So the bike will give you better safety while riding. And the ABS on the front has made the bike's braking smoother and more powerful.
Again, the relationship between the bike's suspension and braking balance is great. Whether you're in the mountains or in the city or on broken gravel and gravel roads, the feedback is pretty good. Telescopic forks at the front and 7-step adjustable mono-shock at the rear provide good feedback.
Especially when you ride in the mountains, you will understand very well. Because then you get better suspension feedback. It also has the tuck roll seat which is a classic cafe racer feature.
This seat will guarantee you a comfortable ride. You won't have any problem that way even after you ride continuously for a long time. Especially for those who have back pain problems, this bike will not cause back pain during the ride.
One of the reasons for not having back pain is its handlebar. Pipe handlebars are provided in this bike. The handlebar is kept in a slightly upright position. So you won't feel any pain on long rides. Due to this, you can ride comfortably for a long time.
Besides, the switch gears of the bike have been improved. Also, most of the parts of this bike are metal. So there can be no question about the quality. Even after being made of metal, the total weight of the bike is 139 kg.
Yamaha has designed the bike in such a way that the bike has cruising capacity as well as being a cafe racer. When you ride the bike, you will feel like you are riding a cruiser motorcycle.
The fuel tank of this bike can hold 10 liters of fuel. We rode the Yamaha FZ-X 150 and got a mileage of 42 kmpl in the city and 45+ kmpl on the highway.
Every bike has some pros and cons. This bike is no exception.
Positive aspects of Yamaha FZ-X 150 –
- Bi-functional headlight and DRL
- Suspension feedback and seat
- Single-channel ABS and traction control system
- Block pattern tires
Yamaha FZ-X 150 Negative Aspects –
- LCD display or speedometer
- Fuel tank is small
- Gear indicator
Not everything on a bike is good. Not that everything will be bad. A lot of things are looked at and then developed while building a bike. Although on the road, the atmosphere is different. But the bike has a lot of room for improvement, which can be fixed later.
In my opinion, this bike is also a motorcycle that you can use for daily rides and long holiday tours. The Yamaha FZ-X 150 is capable of delivering the feel of a cruiser bike while being a classic cafe racer at the same time.
