What To Do If You Lose Your Driving License Or Smart Registration Card?

Last updated on 18-Jan-2025 , By Badhon Roy

Every day, many people ask us what to do if they lose their driving license or bike smart registration card. Questions include whether it's possible to reissue the documents if riding a bike with a copy of the General Diary (GD) is allowed, whether the process is complicated and time-consuming, or if frequent visits to the BRTA office and dealing with brokers are inevitable.

Today, we will explain how you can easily and independently reissue your lost license, registration smart card, or other documents without any hassle.

What To Do If You Lose Your Driving License Or Smart Registration Card?

If you lose your license or registration documents, your first step is to file a General Diary (GD) at your nearest police station. Many people mistakenly believe that riding a bike with a GD copy is acceptable. However, this is incorrect, and traffic sergeants or mobile courts may take legal action against you.

Once you have the GD copy, visit your nearest traffic office. Present the GD copy and apply for clearance to ensure no cases, seizures, or warrants are issued against your license or bike. If no issues are found, the traffic office will issue a clearance certificate.

After the above process is once completed, Open the browser on your mobile phone or desktop and visit the BRTA BSP portal and log in to your account.

For a Lost Driving License:

Go to the "Driving License" option and click on "Duplicate License." Then enter your license number and click "Search." In Section A, your license details, including your photo will appear on the screen. Input the correct blood group, profession, educational qualifications, and the date your license was first issued.

Scroll to Section B and select "Lost" as the reason for your application. Upload scanned copies of your National ID, traffic clearance certificate, and GD copy. Provide the address for receiving your new smart card via post in the "Smart Card Delivery Address" section. Proceed to the online fee payment section.

After completing the fee payment process via bKash, Nagad, Dutch-Bangla Bank, or City Bank, you can download and print the e-paper license from the "License Fee Paid" section once the BRTA approves it. The smart card will be delivered to your provided address via post without requiring you to visit the BRTA office.

What To Do If You Lose Your Smart Registration Card?

After filing the GD and collecting the traffic clearance, log in to the BSP portal and click on the "Various Service Fees" option. Enter the last four digits of your bike's registration number, engine number, and chassis number, then click "Search." If the information is correct, your details will appear. Click "Proceed."

In the "Separated Fee Selection" section, check the options for "Issue of Duplicate Registration Certificate," "Digital Registration Certificate," and "Financial Assistance Fund." Scroll down to view the fee based on your bike's CC and click "Proceed." Complete the payment online via bKash, Nagad, Dutch-Bangla Bank, or City Bank.

Once payment is complete, download and print the receipts. Submit the GD copy, traffic clearance, and printed receipts to the BRTA office to receive a new acknowledgment slip. This slip will allow you to ride your bike. Once the smart card is ready, you will receive a message from the BRTA to collect it from their office.

By following these steps, you can easily reissue your lost license or registration documents. The days of hassle and relying on brokers are over - welcome to the new Bangladesh!
