What Is The Future Of Low-CC Motorcycles After The CC Limit Increase?
Last updated on 22-Jun-2025 , By Badhon Roy
The increase in Bangladesh’s motorcycle CC limit from 165cc to 350cc is no longer news. Among the bikers, the models in the 185cc, 250cc, and 350cc segments across various brands and categories have already gained enough popularity.
This change has also impacted the second-hand marketplace, where many older 150–165cc bikes have seen a bit drop in resale value. But a common question still lingers in many minds that - what is the future of motorcycles under 150cc?

What Is The Future Of Low-CC Motorcycles After The CC Limit Increase?
So, here in this article, we’ll explore the current status and future of low-cc motorcycles in Bangladesh as like the 80–125cc range which is also referred as the “Ha” series through a case study.

Affordable Price- Since Bangladesh is a middle-income country, many buyers buy 80–125cc bikes because of their affordability. These motorcycles typically cost between BDT 80,000 and BDT 175,000 which makes them accessible to a large portion of the population.

Lower Registration Cost- Being categorized under the "Ha" series, registration fees for 80–99cc and 100–125cc bikes are significantly lower than those for 150–350cc motorcycles. Many buyers consider this cost factor seriously when making a purchase decision.
Fuel Efficiency- Most people in Bangladesh live in rural and sub-urban areas, where daily commuting for work, education, or business involves long distances. Low-cc bikes are extremely fuel-efficient which makes them thinking for a better option. These bikes typically provide mileage ranging from 60 km/l to even 85 km/l or more which is almost double that of higher-cc bikes. Making fuel cost savings a major benefit.
Low Maintenance Cost- Low-cc bikes are primarily designed for long-term commuting. As a result they perform well even with minimal maintenance. With proper care these bikes can serve users for generations. Spare parts are cheaper and widely available. Also these bikes are made with simple mechanism so most local mechanics can repair them easily. In tough situations even riders themselves can manage small repairs using the bike’s toolbox.
Family-Friendly Commuting- Since 80–125cc bikes are made with daily commuting in mind comfort is a top design priority. These bikes typically have wider flat seats which make them suitable for riding with family. In many cases a husband, wife, and a small child can ride comfortably together.
Delivery and Ride-Sharing- Due to their low cost and comfort, demand for 80–125cc bikes in delivery and ride-sharing services is steadily increasing.
All-Terrain Capability- One of the standout features of 80–125cc motorcycles is their adaptability to all types of road conditions. While high-performance or sports bikes may struggle or be risky to ride on rough roads, these lighter bikes with good ground clearance and commuter-focused designs can easily tackle hills, rural potholes or muddy roads. In some areas these bikes are affectionately called “soil-biters” for their ability to navigate all terrains with ease.
While the increase in cc limit is a positive development for Bangladeshi Bikers, it’s clear that low-cc motorcycles will not lose their relevance or appeal anytime soon. Modern technologies such as tubeless tires, disc brakes, digital consoles, fuel injection (FI), and BS6 standards are increasingly being incorporated into low-cc models as well. As a result, budget-conscious bikers can now enjoy updated features without compromising their financial limits.
For those who use bikes not just for passion but for essential daily mobility the 80–125cc segment will always remain relevant. These bikes have a specific target audience in mind and manufacturers will continue to develop and launch new lower cc models with the latest technologies and riders from rural or marginal communities will also continue to embrace them.
