Route 59 Café: An Emotion That Global Biking Community Helped To Save

In the international biking world, some names represent more than just a road. They carry emotion and identity. Just as Route 66 is legendary in the United States, Route 59 Cafe beside the A59 in the United Kingdom holds a special place in the hearts of riders.

Route 59 Café: An Emotion That Global Biking Community Helped To Save
Located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the cafe was established nearly a decade ago on the site of an old petrol station by Audrey Duxbury. From the beginning it became a regular stop for bikers. For long distance riders it offered rest, conversation, and a warm welcome.
Tragedy struck when Audrey’s 21 year old son Josh Duxbury was died in a road accident. Josh was the head chef of the cafe and a passionate motorcyclist. His sudden death deeply affected not only his family but also the wider biking community across England. For a time it seemed the cafe might close its doors for good.

At that critical moment, long time employee Janet Euston stepped forward. To give Audrey the space she needed, Janet opened the cafe the very next day. She told the bikers that if they volunteered to help, she would feed them.
The response was overwhelming. Riders came together to support the cafe. Some worked in the kitchen, some helped with service, others cleaned and managed daily tasks. They did not ask for any payment. In return they received snacks, food and the satisfaction of protecting a place that meant so much to them.

Through unity and shared purpose Route 59 Cafe survived. Today its car park remains filled with motorcycles. It continues to serve not only local riders but also visitors from around the world.
The story of Route 59 Cafe is more than the story of a roadside cafe. It is a powerful example of brotherhood, compassion, and solidarity within the global biking community.
