North Forge Announced To Make Military Grade Electric Bikes

Last updated on 08-Apr-2026 , By Badhon Roy

Ongoing global fuel crisis attention is increasingly shifting towards electric mobility as a viable alternative. Taking that transition a step further a Canada-based light utility vehicle manufacturer North Forge has announced plans to develop an electric motorcycle specifically for military use.

North Forge Announced To Make Military Grade Electric Bikes

According to international motorcycle blog Motorcycle Network, the proposed model named Dispatch is being designed as a lightweight vehicle for reconnaissance, patrolling and message delivery. The company claims the bike will outperform many of the consumer-grade and currently deployed military motorcycles used across different armed forces worldwide.

The initiative also aligns with the environmental targets set by NATO, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Speaking about the project, Michael Uhlarik- Chief Product Officer at North Forge, said the motorcycle has been developed in collaboration with military forces from Canada and Europe. He noted that modern battlefields demand reliable communication, intelligence gathering, and signaling capabilities.

He added that military equipment must endure extreme conditions without relying on manuals or careful handling. “Soldiers will use these machines under intense pressure. So Dispatch is being built to withstand prolonged and harsh usage in real-world combat environments,” he said.

In terms of design Dispatch draws inspiration from utilitarian models such as Yamaha’s AG-100 series bikes. It is engineered to remain operational even after repeated falls and exposure to extreme environments including 100 percent humidity, temperatures as low as minus 35 degrees Celsius, and challenging terrains like snow and sand for up to a decade. Specific technical details such as range, power output, torque, and weight have not yet been disclosed due to security considerations.

On the other hand, British military has also been exploring the feasibility of integrating electric motorcycles into its fleet. Back in 2021 British Army Captain Dan Lauder highlighted battery limitations as one of the biggest challenges for electric vehicles. Issues such as power management, limited range, cold weather performance, high-altitude efficiency and fire risks linked to lithium battery short circuits remain key concerns.

The Dispatch’s battery system may address some of these challenges. The same battery technology has reportedly been used by the Canadian Coast Guard and proven effective in extreme cold conditions. Built to military-standard specifications the batteries are designed to minimize explosion risks even tampered and may include ballistic missile protection features.

One notable advantage is the ability to swap batteries quickly without tools. It’s an important feature that could save critical time in combat situations.

The development signals a renewed interest in motorcycles for military applications something not seen prominently since the World War II. Such innovations could also accelerate the adoption of electric motorcycles in the civilian sector making them more practical and accessible in the near future.
