Charging an electric motorcycle at home in Bangladesh is actually very easy and much cheaper than using a petrol bike. Most electric bikes like those from Revo or TailG use simple chargers that you can plug into any normal wall socket.

Here is how you can set up your own home charging spot.

Use a Standard Wall Socket

Most electric motorcycles in Bangladesh do not need a big expensive charging box. They come with a portable charger that looks like a laptop charger but bigger. You only need a high quality three pin socket in your garage or parking area. It is best to use a socket that is grounded so you stay safe from electric shocks. If your parking spot is far from a power point you should ask an electrician to pull a new thick wire from your main board.

Check Your Battery Type

Before you start you must know what kind of battery your bike has. Some bikes use Lead Acid batteries which are heavy and cheap. Others use Lithium Ion batteries which are light and last longer. You must always use the original charger that came with your bike. Never use a charger from a different bike because the voltage might be different and it could cause a fire. If your battery is removable you can even take it inside your house and charge it in your room.

Setup a Safe Charging Area

You should pick a dry and cool place to charge your bike. Charging makes the battery and the charger get warm so the area should have some air flow. Do not charge your bike near things that can catch fire like old newspapers or clothes. If you park outside make sure the area has a roof so rain does not get on the plugs. It is a good idea to install a small switch near your bike so you can turn the power off easily without pulling the plug every time.

Follow a Good Routine

To make your battery last for many years you should follow a few simple rules. Do not wait until the battery is completely empty to charge it. It is better to plug it in when it reaches around 20%. Also try not to leave it charging for many days without unplugging it. Most bike batteries take about 4 to 8 hours to get full. Charging at night is best because the electricity is more stable and the weather is cooler.

Keep it Maintained

Check your charging cable every month to see if there are any cuts or burns. If the wires feel very hot when charging you should call an electrician to check your house wiring. If you live in a building with many people you should tell your building manager before you start charging regularly. They might ask you to pay a small monthly fee for the extra electricity you use.
